Arrogance of Power

melanieschmoll1

Guess what! I did not get any reply regarding my three projects since I wrote my last post. I find it very disrespectful. I got deadlines, I kept them and now I am waiting for the publishing houses. Its just ridiculous! I mean, I want to get rid off these projects so I can focus on my new ones. But this is not possible as long as the editors come up with last changes. I will have to open my old files and by using two monitors check the changes they suggest. It is a very nerve-racking and boring work. And time-consuming!  I tried everything to get them back to work because the summer holidays are coming closer. I want to get this done before they tell me they have three weeks off.

The Europeans voted last Sunday https://results.elections.europa.eu/en/national-results/germany/2024-2029/. And Germany still waits for a statement about the outcome and an idea about the next steps from the Chancellor. No, he did not talk to the voters or the press afterwards, he did not say, like the French President Macron, that he heard the needs and decided to chose action. No, he did not even take the outcome seriously. I think this is what they call: arrogance of power. Embarrassing!

This is certainly not the way to convince people from own politics. This is not the way to renew trust in democracy and this is also not the way to deal with extremist opinions and thoughts. And just to hope for a great soccer party in the country and all problems and needs will be forgotten is simply silly.

Another example for arrogance of power is what happened at the TU Berlin over the last weeks. I did not mention earlier because I hoped for a different outcome, but I was wrong. The president of the Technical University in Berlin, liked antisemitic tweets. She claimed she did not notice what the illustrations showed...

https://www.ynetnews.com/article/hyfqbmse0 After some investigations the board members of a certain committee expressed their distrust but decided that the president should decide herself if she wants to stay or leave https://www.zeit.de/gesellschaft/zeitgeschehen/2024-06/tu-berlin-geraldine-rauch-ruecktritt

No surprise that she decided to stay. At least the German government will not appoint her next year again for https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/antisemitism/article-805480 for an advisory position at the so-called “Future Council.”

More examples? A professor of the Freie Universität Berlin finds antisemitic pictures funny and shares these pics on his social media accounts  https://www.juedische-allgemeine.de/kultur/fu-professor-findet-antisemitischen-post-witzig/  - no words. Sometimes I can hardly stand this madness.

But there is also some good news. My latest video was uploaded on YouTube so you can watch it in full length: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uSAnV8IKS4

Also, me and my work were mentioned here: https://hef.northwestern.edu/about/newsletters/ Thank you very much 😊

PS: A dear friend of mine suggested recently that Israel should recognize the State of Catalonia in return to Spains decision to recognize Palestine. A brilliant idea!
