What a week, eh?

Ok, I admit: I spent a lot of time in Canada! 😊

It was a short week in Germany because of the Easter holiday last Monday. As expected, my long weekend was full of writing and working. I reached out to different colleagues and contact persons for different work-related reasons. On Monday, after I returned from a family event, I was sitting in front of my computer to wrote a proposal for a research grant: I finished at 21.30 my time! I just figured out the very same morning that I am eligible to apply and that the deadline was April, 1st! So, I had to hurry, but made in on time. Lucky me.

Besides the stressful start some surprises awaited me during the week: My 50th history video clip saw the light! Just click and watch 😊! https://learnattack.de/geschichte/die-deutsche-revolution-von-18481849#video-beginn-und-ablauf-der-deutschen-revolution-von-1848/1849

You can find the entire list on this website: "Publications, 2024, articles and contributions." I m very glad to work with such a creative team over the last two years. The video producers but also the presenters give everything to implement my scripts. It is a pleasure to work with them.

Another surprise was a meeting I attended on Wednesday.

The panel was staffed with top-caliber US-experts on Holocaust education. Interestingly, it turned out during their presentation and the following discussion that teachers, educators, academics, and researchers started to be confronted with the very same issues we are facing here. My colleagues do start to experience the same unpleasant and partly simply unbelievable obstacles and troubles now, I am dealing with since I started my career in the field of Holocaust education. My US – colleagues spoke about the new situation they are in since October 7th. But to me their experiences are not new at all. I gave some hints about German studies on these issues. After the meeting I reached out to the host and the organizer of the event and we have decided to discuss these topics further. I am glad to work with these respected scholars in near future.

It is now 6 months after October 7th there is no end in sight. Quite the contrary: The world awaits attacks from Iran (if we can trust the US it will happen already next week), colleagues of mine cannot work anymore, because of the fields they are working in, the University they are related to or simply because they are who they are. Tremendous pressure is on them, but also on my friends, for the very same reason: Because they are who they are. There is way too much hatred in the world these days.

Also I visited the Laboe Naval Memorial this week https://deutscher-marinebund.de/marine-ehrenmal-u-995/preise-oeffnungszeiten/ . I just cannot stop thinking about where hates leads us.
